Monday, May 14, the nominated Nobel Peace Prize candidate poured gas on an already flammable conflict between the Palestines' and Israelis. Joy.
Trump has delivered on his promise to seal the deal for Israel by moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to East Jerusalem. Essentially, he has single-handedly declared that the entire region of Jerusalem belongs emphatically and unequivocally to the Israelis. Has the great “peace maker” stepped out of his neutral role as the impartial peace negotiator? It seems to me, as if his promises are surface deep and don’t reflect the long term damages he is inflicting.
Well, let’s review. In the past few weeks, Trump has reneged on the US’s deal with Iran to stop nuclear advancement in return for economic growth through international trade expansion. Yes, he could be powering up for a more long-term deal, but did he just poke a nuclear bear? As a result of this broken promise, Iran launched missiles at Israel, an official ally of The United States. Hey, at least the nuclear weapons weren’t a done deal...yet.
Israel, now has primed enemies on more than one front. Trump, in his attempt to create a ‘peace process’, has antagonized a people who already feel cheated out of their land; albeit, a land that was taken and given to the Israelis and later undoubtedly conquered by them through war. The Israelis are angry. The Palestines' are angry. The Nakba Day or ‘Day of Catastrophe’ is here and the Muslims’ holy month sees a trifecta of dominant personalities in a tumultuous geographical epicenter. So congratulations goes out to Trump, the Noble Peace Prize candidate, for placing a ticking time bomb in the center of a war of people who are not afraid to press the button.

Amazing post Kayleigh! I feel that Trump will do anything in his power to win over the people and then stab them in the back the second he gets the chance. He is not a true leader; leaders do not make promises then break them in order to gain power and have control over people. This is a game to him, and it is scary that he does not feel any remorse by breaking these promises. It is mindboggling that Trump is so naive to think that these people who will not hesitate to fight back after what he has done.

Didn't Trump say he would stop interfering in the Middle East during his election campaign? It kinda seems like he's making the US interfere more than it was before he became president.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be making a habit of the exact opposite of what he said he'd do, big surprise.
Kayleigh,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! All I can do is shake my head to not scream out in frustration when I read the newest Trumps news such as this. He seems to be destroying everything in the year and a half he’s been in office, that took decades to work towards. He can’t seem to focus on keeping the peace and doing what’s best for the country for once, instead of always causing chaos. It almost seems as if he instead prefers ‘stirring the pot’, causing drama, and watching the world burn. In my opinion there greatly needs to be something done about his unacceptable decisions and behaviour.

I honestly don't think Trump will be happy until he undoes all things Obama set in place. He seems to be determined to reverse every decision that was made by the previous president whether it is good for the american people or not.
ReplyDeleteThoughtful blog post, Kayleigh. It does well to maintain continuity. Think about what you want your readers to take away from this. Convincing them? Giving them insight into your own ideas? References for a more nuanced understanding of the situation? Whichever you choose to focus on, you can direct efforts and draw in readers by specificity.
