A bully who has attempted to impose his wishes on another country by calling the man names such as “Rocketman”, “short and fat” (Our Foreign Staff 2018) as well as threatening to decimate his country is being proposed for the next Noble Peace Prize.
Everyone has seen Trump, heard him as well as witnessed his
imbecilic written tweets, so why is such a puerile man in the run for something
‘nobel’ for worthy people?
The Nobel Peace Prize is named after Alfred Nobel, a Swedish Businessman who left behind “31,5 million” Swedish crowns. In his will Nobel presented that all of his fortune should be “invested in safe securities and should constitute a fund[,] “the interest on which shall be annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind” (The Nobel Peace Prize).
Does Trump pass this test? Yes his name is linked with
something truly amazing, bringing together the two Koreas. Trump credits this
coming together through his hardline efforts and sanctions against North
Korea.Even if it was brought together by his actions, should a man who has
brought the world to the brink of a nuclear war with his rhetoric and
dumbfounding discourse be recognized as person who has “conferred the greatest
benefit on mankind’? (Especially in the area of “peace”?)
In my perspective I do not think a man of his nature should be rewarded for his bullying tactics. He might as well be presenting to the public that, ‘hey it's okay to be a bully because bullying gets you rewards’.
Is this what we would like to teach our children?

Thanks for your post. Trump is not someone I think of as being a contender for the Nobel Peace Prize, especially with past recipients being individuals like Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa. I also see his personality as being that of a bully and I don't think that is the type of image should be associated with the Nobel Peace Prize.
ReplyDeleteI'd argue that the new Korea agreement shouldn't even have Trump on the list, a footnote at most. South Korea has been trying to lower the tensions between the two countries for a long time now, to have the glory be stolen by someone who has done nothing but exacerbate the problem would be infuriating to me.
ReplyDeleteGood start here Kayleigh. As this topic (global political analysis) is so vast, it might be helpful to narrow the focus. A specific analysis and unpacking of an article or event, might help to allow for an in depth critique. Also, think about the tone of the blog: analytical, irony, satire are all potentials.
ReplyDeleteGood Post Kayleigh. I am shocked that a man like this would qualify for the Nobel Peace prize, but of course I am still in shock that he is even the president, so I suppose anything can happen. I hope things work out how they should, and someone who truly deserves a prestigious award such as this, receives it. Even if some people believe that he deserves it due to his attempts at creating peace, I believe that how he holds himself, how he appears to treat others and the way his actions are seen, should also hold a substantial amount of weight in whether this is the kind of role model we want to be rewarding, as you have said. Keep up the good work.
